Texas makes use of fairly standardized pleadings for most documents filed in court in which a party is requesting some type of relief. The divorce process starts with a pleading called an "Original Petition of Divorce."
Below is a sample Original Petition for Divorce. An original petition is the first petition filed. If it is later amended, the amended petitions should be labeled "First Amended Petition for Divorce," "Second Amended Petition..." etc.
